"One for All and All for One"
Who: Three classes of third grade students at Laura MacArthur Elementary School, Two Denfeld High School Health classes, and the West Duluth Community.
What: Students will first document their physical activity using pedometers and eating habits over a one month period of time. The students will then compare their eating habits and physical fitness with what the American Diabetes Association, American Obesity Association, the Center for Disease Control and the American Heart Association recommend for people their age. From there students will set personal fitness goals for themselves using pedometers. The students will then put what they have learned in action to prevent childhood obesity making posters, t-shirts, and putting on a school health fair.
Where: West Duluth, MN
Why: Childhood obesity is a preventable. The students in West Duluth come from low income houses where nutritious food is not always provided. Keeping the students aware that their fitness is important and something that they can control gives them power to battle childhood obesity.
How: With partnerships from local agencies that have the same mission to fight childhood obesity, local business owners, support from Duluth Public Schools, and United Health Partners.
